It's That Day Again...

As shameful as it seems, I didn't stop to think about what happened on this day back in 2001 until just an hour ago.

Oddly enough, I had already written one check this morning and paid a visit to one of the local banks before I realized...it was that day.

One of those anniversaries good Americans like me aren't supposed to forget.

It's not that I don't recall what happened that morning seven years ago. I just don't think about it every moment of the day. And yes, if I had lost a loved one on that day, I wouldn't have the luxury of forgetting so easily.

And yet it is in the nature of Man that even the date of some of the biggest catastrophes end up forgotten. Not because we wish to forget them but because we can think of them only so long before sanity encourages us to move on to something else.

Anyway, I did finally remember without any reminder from the newspaper, the TV news, the radio or the Internet.

I hope that next year I can say the same thing.

Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning?)

I was at home in Texas, fortunately. It was not until I received a mid-morning telephone call from my father that I realized something bad had happened that day.

My sympathies and condolences to all those who did not enjoy the same luxury on that fatal day.

September Is the Cruelest Month

I'm sure I'm not the first one who has said that but since I'm not a New Yorker and lost no loved ones on 9/11, I have little to say apart from that.

As always, my condolences to those who lost loved ones on this date.

Those who have exploited this tragedy for political gain should be ashamed.

The Other Day That Will Live in Infamy

It's that day again. The one day in September that I will be reminded of every year.

I'd say more but as a non-New Yorker with no kinfolk -- save for a cousin's son -- currently in the military, I don't feel I have the right. Today is not the day for grandstanding.

September 11, 2001

Yes, I remember.

As a non-New Yorker who was unaffected by what happened on that date, I have no right to say more than that.

Except a quick gracias a Dios that all my New York friends and acquaintances survived that day.
