Movie Song of the Month: “Sound Off”

I should have posted this earlier in the month (especially around Memorial Day or the anniversary of D-Day) but I wasn't able to.

However, better late than never.

From 1949's Battleground, it's one of the most archetypical war songs ever used in the American movies.

Movie Song of the Month: “Remember My Forgotten Man”

I didn't mean to post another Busby Berkeley song again so soon but, hey, Memorial Day is coming up quite soon. And this is the most appropriate movie song I can think of. Even though it was originally written about World War I veterans, it still packs a heck of a wallop today.

Movie Song of the Month: “I Won't Dance”

That Fred Astaire always was a tease, wasn't he? After all, what red-blooded male in his right mind wouldn't want to dance with Ginger Rogers?

Of course, one doesn't necessarily need to see Roberta (the 1935 movie this clip was taken from) to know that sooner or later Astaire was going to start dancing anyway. And you'll be pleased to know that eventually he did dance with Ginger in this movie as well. But not in this number, unfortunately.

But, hey, the song is still fun to watch. And not just because of Ginger...

Besides, I felt the need to post something cheery this week in light of recent events that were not so cheery. Enjoy.

Movie Song of the Month: “We're in the Money”

I'm probably tempting fate by posting this song so close to April 15, but then again I really, really like this song. It's “We're in the Money” from Gold Diggers of 1933.

If nothing else, it got me to appreciate Ginger Rogers in a way I never did before. Granted, it's a young Ginger Rogers but still...

And, hey, I'd promise you all that I'd post something cheerier.
