R.I.P. Robin Gibb


Singer Robin Gibb, one of the founding members of the 1960s pop group known as The Bee Gees, sang his last note this past Sunday at age 62.

He will be missed.

R.I.P. Carlos Fuentes


Mexican author Carlos Fuentes, most famous for the novel The Old Gringo -- which was the inspiration for an American movie of the same name -- and the nonfiction book The Buried Mirror, put down his pen for the final time last Tuesday at age 83.

He will be missed.

American singer Donna Summer, most famous for such hits as "I Feel Love" and "She Works Hard for the Money," performed her last dance this morning at age 63.

Something I Should Have Mentioned Way Earlier than This

Some time between the day I posted this item back in 2008 and the end of last year, the City of Dallas finally named a local street after Mexican-American labor organizer César Chávez -- surprise, surprise, it was not Ross Avenue. It says something about how rarely I go downtown that it took me a long while to pick up on this but I finally did.

I know I should have mentioned this news far earlier than today but a lot has been going on this past six months. Lo siento.
