¡Adios, 2019!

I hope that you and Ms. Kinski have a pleasant departure and that your replacement will be an improvement.

In any event, here's wishing the best to all of my loyal readers in 2019. I know I have not been posting as regularly this past year as much as you all might like but I really am trying to improve on that. May you all have a safe celebration tonight.

Christmas Song of the Week: "Father Christmas"

It took me a long time to appreciate this song. On one hand, it's one of the most cynical Christmas song ever recorded; on the other, it has a genuinely idealistic message that lacks the self-congratulation that mars similar efforts like "We Are the World" and "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Of course, YMMV but I would like to think the song is still worth listening to if only for the last few lines.

Pensamientos Acerca de Televisión

Evil: “Pilot”

Stop me if you heard this one but apparently there was this guy who liked to investigate cases of a supernatural nature and his partner just happened to be a woman who was very skeptical about the supernatural...

Okay, there's obviously more to the new Evil show than that but unfortunately, I doubt I'm ever going to find out. After all, the last time I tried to watch the first episode by myself, my eyes started blurring and several hours later my blood sugar and my blood pressure crashed. I doubt the two incidents were related but then again, I'm not really eager to test that theory when it concerns a TV show that at best seemed to be so-so.

On the plus side, it was good to see actor Michael Emerson of Person of Interest back on prime-time TV again even if his role as a demon enabling so-and-so was far from sympathetic.

On the minus side, I'm not sure how eager I am to watch yet another TV show about demons. Especially since two of those demons had the same names as two of my relatives.

Trailer of the Week: Confessions of a Shopaholic

It's the one romcom that even romcom fans prefer not to remember. Starring everyone's favorite Amy Adams wannabe Isla Fisher, it's a shameless tribute to retail therapy that should have been rendered obsolete by Great Depression II but wasn't.

The Twilight Zone (1985): “The Card”

A busy housewife and mother of three gets issued a credit card from a mysterious company called the Card and discovers the hard way what happens when she forgets to make a payment. The sad part about this episode is that it's still so timely -- and even more so every Christmas season.

¡Feliz Cumpleaños, Mi Hermano y Mi Mamá!

It's my mother's birthday and my youngest brother's birthday.

It is also the Catholic religious holiday known as Feast of the Immaculate Conception but you all probably knew that already.
