A Hazy Shade of Autumn

Fall officially began this morning here in Dallas. After months of sleeping without a blanket, I was forced to use one this morning because the temperature was too cold without one. Of course, it might have helped if I wasn't using the ceiling fan but then it's been way too hot down here for me to do much sleeping without using the ceiling fan.

Not that “cold” means a lot in Texas right now. Temperatures are still in the 80s in the afternoon, and my girlfriend and I were able to go out last night without either of us needing to wear a sweater or jacket. But in a few weeks we probably will not be able to do that. And by November such nights were definitely be rare.

Sometimes The Words Just Won't Come

Last week I found out that a former co-worker of mine had been arrested on a number of charges including capital murder. Apparently she had gotten involved with a bad crowd and had helped rob someone who later turned up dead.

I could post a link to a news story giving more info but for her mother's sake, I won't.

I don't know what else to say.

The woman in question did not seem like a criminal when I knew her ten years ago, but then most criminals don't seem like criminals. And evidently she has changed over the years.

There's not much else I can say apart from expressing my condolences to her mother and the victim's next-of-kin.

Life, alas, is full of sad surprises.

Fuego, Part 2

For a while, it looked as if the building that burnt down in my condominium complex last January would be replaced by a playground, but in the end, the management decided to ignore a petition arguing for such a playground and are instead going to replace it with another building.

What a shame.
