Nonsequential Links I
Links to items that I found interesting. (My comments in non-hyperlinked parentheses.):
In the same spirit of my younger self then, I am going to offer posts on this blog that I consider educational for men such as those ignorants who helm the nation's film studios, gatekeepers who seem to think of Latin women as maids, whores, nannies, gang members -- and little more than that. Oh, wait, welfare mothers and crack whores. Forgot those. (You go, Alisa!)
In my more optimistic moments, I think that perhaps this is a case of ultimately the living (those keeping their jobs) may very well envy the dead (those of us being jettisoned). (Here's hoping Ms. Cozzi finds a job quite soon, if she hasn't already.)
I believe that some discussion of Hitler’s bold move to occupy the Rhineland is relevant here because it gives the lie to the oft-repeated cliché that the Olympic Games exert a “moderating effect” on regimes bent on internal oppression, external aggression, or civil war.
Today is a good day to remember that it is not just Mexicans or Latinos that are not legally in this country but Europeans, Asians and Africans, too. And a good day to remind people that it isn’t as simple as “getting in line” to come to the United States.
You don’t often hear the words “Disney” and “dystopia” in the same sentence. Not until now, that is.
Guys, really: There's not ONE mention of oil, carbon footprints, fossil fuels or global warming. None. The big "eco-disaster" is LITTERING. Are you really going to seriously tell me that "don't litter" is now an unacceptably partisan message for a CHILDREN'S FILM?
All right then--since they were some of the few Communist intellectuals in the world who were NOT subject to arbitrary arrest and imprisonment, shouldn't they have been using their freedom to save a few writers in Russia? Shouldn't there be something in the KGB file to identify them as a DISSIDENT Communist cell? (Okay, this essay is obviously not a recent one, but it still makes a valid point.)
