She was one of the most famous artists in Mexican history. Her husband, Diego Rivera, of course, was also a famous artist and he had a profound influence on her work -- though not always in a good way. She is also one of the few female artists still regularly referenced in pop culture. Hopefully, she will have lots of company in that field one day.
