A Return to Retail
My first official job -- at least the first one I actually got paid for -- was a retail job so it naturally makes some kind of sense that my current job is also in retail.
It's probably just as well. I could not stay unemployed forever and while I don't consider my current job to be my ideal job, it does provide me with a regular paycheck and the opportunity to pay off many of the bills I acquired during my long period of unemployment.
Anyway, lately there has been so much bad news in my life that it seems like no wonder that my last few posts have been devoted to celebrity obituaries. Worse yet, most of my friends are having a bad time of it as well. Of course, neither my life nor theirs is as bad as it could be but that's not always a convincing consolation.
On the bright side, I do get to meet a lot of interesting people at work. Then again I also get to meet a lot of people I would not rather have to meet.
But such is life. If nothing else, my job gives me the opportunity to observe people in a way that I could have never done when I was unemployed. Plus I get the opportunity to interact with people in a way that I haven't done in a long time. And I've already been at my job for over a year so I should be due for a vacation some time this coming month. At least I hope so.
